Regulations Regarding Wooden Packaging Material Bound for Brazil
Wooden packaging material is very popular for the packaging of goods for import and export. You need to be aware if you import or export using wooden packaging material, Brazil has made a few changes to the regulations regarding the use of Wooden Packing Material for cargo imported, exported, or with transshipment to Brazil.
The Brazilian Port Authorities and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply will require information about wooden packaging material as of February 1st, 2016. This rule applies for all shipments to and from Brazil.
Based on the new regulations instructions being implemented by the Brazilian Customs Authorities (according to MAPA Brazilian Normative Instruction 32/2015) concerning Wooden Packaging Materials, Brazil exporters and importers will be required to provide details regarding any and all Wooden Packing Material used when submitting your shipping instructions.
From 1 February 2016, all Wooden Packaging Material for Brazil Need to be Specified
This regulation is in effect from February 1, 2016, and will apply to all shipments containing wood packaging material originating from Brazil, destined for Brazil or as part of transshipments via Brazil.
All shipping instructions that go to, from or through Brazil now has to include the following:
- If the Packaging used (including Pallets) is made of wood
- In the case Wooden Packaging is used, the appropriate type should be included:
- Wooden Package: Treated and Certified
- Wooden Package: Not-Treated and Not-Certified
- Wooden Package: Processed
In order to be in line with the new Brazil Customs requirement, we require the following information from our customers dealing with shipments to and from Brazil:
- Wooden Package: not applicable (Indicates there is no wood or wooden packaging in the shipment)
- Wooden Package: Treated and Certified
- Wooden Package: Not-Treated and Not-Certified
- Wooden Package: Processed
When the required information is not mentioned on the Bill of Lading, Brazilian Customs might not handle and accept the shipment and a penalty can be given.
