Macro Clearing is a privately owned customs clearing and freight forwarding agent based in Cape Town, South Africa. We also handle the clearing and forwarding of freight in other cities like Durban, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Walvisbaai and various countries besides South Africa.

We built up a network both in South Africa and internationally which enables us to provide both import and export customs clearing services at all major ports and airports in South Africa, as well as any services that may be required to and from all foreign ports and airports globally.

Where it all started: Experiencing Forwarding and Clearing of Freight from Both Sides

Right after finishing school in 1983, Marius started working for Customs & Excise in Cape Town, South Africa. In 1992 he was transferred to the Customs & Excise offices in Pretoria. It was during his tenure working in Pretoria that he decided to move to the private sector.

Working as a Clearing Agent in the private sector, Marius worked for various Clearing and Forwarding Agencies, gaining invaluable experience in the Import and Export business and refining his own expertise as Clearing and Forwarding Agent. The experience gained working both for Customs and Excise and later in the private sector, has gained him a well-deserved reputation within the industry with satisfied clients, his peers and even the competition.

In June 2014 Marius decided, together with his wife Catherine, to start Macro Clearing (M.A. Odendal, T/A Macro Clearing.) From 1 March 2017, the company has traded as M.A Odendal (Pty) Ltd, Reg. No. 2016/479955/07 T/A Macro Clearing.

Catherine runs the office and is responsible for seeing that paperwork and other administrative duties are done, while Marius is tasked with the responsibility of seeing that all freight forwarding and clearing run smoothly with no hassle to the client.

The Legal Side of Running an Import/Export Business

Marius is registered with SARS Customs as an Importer/Exporter and Clearing Agent. He is in good standing with SARS as far as VAT/PAYE as well as his provisional- and personal tax are concerned. He is also registered with SAAFF, which is a legal requirement for all legal Import/Export-, Clearing- and Forwarding agents.
